FAQ's

Q: What is a CD business card?

A: A CD Business Card is a CD-ROM that has been cut or molded into the shape of an ordinary business card.

   Q: How does it work?

A: The CD Business Card fits in the inner circular grooves that are found in every computer CD-ROM. If considering a lap-top computer, it simply fits onto the player just as a normal CD-ROM does.

Q: How much information can the CD Business Card hold?

A: The CD Business Card holds approx 50 MB of information (this translates into about 5 minutes of video, hundreds to thousands of documents, 20 to 30 minutes of audio, virtually an unlimited amount of Internet links, and a lot more).

Q: What kind of graphic goes on the front of the CD Business Card?

A: Source Link will put any graphic/text you want on the front of the shaped CD. This graphic can be up to five colors (i.e., 4 colors plus a white background). Simply make sure that the graphic to be placed on the shaped CD has been fitted to the appropriate shaped CD template. When the CD Wizard asks you to upload the graphic, just attach it and upload. Now you're done. It's that simple!

Q: What’s the difference between replication and duplication?

A: Replicated discs (often referred to as pressed discs) are created by physically pressing your data into the surface of the disc, whereas duplicated discs (often referred to as burned discs) encode your data onto the disc by burning microscopic holes into the dye layer of a recordable CD or DVD. Replicated discs are the standard for major commercial releases; however, duplicated discs have lots of advantages, too.

Q: Should I get replication or duplication?

A: It depends on your application. Replication is most cost effective on orders of over 300 discs, and offers more packaging options. Duplication is most cost effective on orders of fewer than 300 discs and can be significantly faster than replication on shorter runs. To help make your choice, call your Product Specialist.

Q: What kinds of discs can you manufacture?

A: CD Audio, CD-ROM (PC, Mac, or hybrid), Enhanced CD, CD-i, CD-V, Photo CD, DVD-Audio, DVD, Dual-layer DVD, CardDisc, silk screened blanks (available in CD-R, DVD-R, and DVD+R), and lots more. We manufacture every commercially released format of disc every day; if you have specific needs, just contact your Product Specialist to find out how we can accommodate you.

Q: What does the price include?

A: Many facilities will give you a “complete” price, but you may later find hidden costs. Every Disc Makers package includes the things you need to actually manufacture and receive your CD or DVD project. This includes, but is not limited to: glass mastering, artwork proofs, printing and replication, and assembly. Polywrap is included for many packages. Shipping and sales tax are not included in our published prices. On orders without authoring, mastering, or Design Studio services, we presume that your finished art files will be supplied in our templates and to our specifications, and that your master disc performs exactly the way you want it to. Of course, if you have authoring, mastering, or design needs we have experienced industry professionals in-house who are ready and able to take your project to the next level. Just ask your Product Specialist for more information.

Q: How long will it take to manufacture my order?

A: This depends on the complexity of your order. Because we’re the leading manufacturer in the industry our turn times are among the fastest around. And because our manufacturing takes place in-house, we offer several accelerated options for our clients who need their CDs and DVDs quickly. Speak with your Product Specialist to discuss the available turn times for your project.

Q: Do you offer a satisfaction guarantee?

A: Yes. All of our work on your project is done in-house to the most exacting standards in the industry. We guarantee that you will be 100% satisfied with your graphic design proofs and audio tests, or we will refund your deposit in full.

Q: What do I need to place an order?

A: First, ensure you have completed the order confirmation form in full. Next send us your artwork and master along with any necessary documents eg mCPS license or indemnity form. Organise your payment by either credit/debit card or BACS. Ensure you are available to approve any proofs.

Q: Which templates should I use?

A: Please use only templates supplied by us. Visit our templates page or download the template available on the individual product page. If you cannot find one, let us know and we will email it to you promptly.

Q: What is the turnaround time for replicated orders?

A: The average turnaround for replicated orders is 7-9 working days from receipt of artwork, master and payment. However, we do offer an express replication service (subject to a surcharge), which may get your discs to you in half the time.

Q: How can I pay for the job?

A: We accept T/T, L/C, Western Union, Paypal etc.

Q: What format do you accept the graphic files in?

A: We prefer photoshop 8 or above, illustrator 9 or above or print ready PDF files. We also accept Quark 4 and above and InDesign 1.5 and above.

Q: How should I send the graphic files?

A: If your files are less than 10MB in size, you can email us. If larger, you can either ftp the files, send them on CD or send them via “yousendit”. Ask us for ftp details if this is your prefer method.

Q: What masters do you accept for a CD replication job?

   A: We accept CD-R masters.

Q: What masters do you accept for a DVD replication job?

   A: We accept DVD-R masters.

   Q: What is bleed?

A: Bleed is created by extending the image area beyond the trim lines. Because all paper parts are cut in large quantities with automated guillotines, it is not possible to adjust each piece of artwork. By placing the recommended 3mm of bleed around your artwork and moving all important text a further 2mm from the bleed, you can ensure that important words and images are not cut off.

Q: Will my DVD-R play in every DVD player?

A: Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that your duplicated DVD-R will play in every DVD player. Some older players will not accept DVD-R media. This is a limitation with the current technology and not with our duplication processes. We suggest that you test one of our DVDs before placing an order if this is a major concern.
